Welcome to Ysgol Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd’s website Ysgol Llanfair DC is a bilingual, rural, Church in Wales School with a strong Welsh ethos. It is situated around two miles outside the town of Ruthin and serves families from the communities of Llanfair, Pwllglas and their surrounding areas. The school provides a happy and secure environment which supports all the children to develop to their utmost ability. The staff are experienced, caring and committed to meeting the needs of all the pupils. We are a bilingual school, and we make it a priority to ensure that all pupils leave at the age of 11 able to communicate fluently in both Welsh and English. To this end, pupils will encounter both languages, in all lessons, throughout their time at the school, with Welsh being the main language of delivery. Lessons during the Foundation Phase are delivered through the medium of Welsh and, at the end of this period, pupils can opt to continue their education through the medium of either Welsh or English. The day-to-day language of the school is Welsh, and all pupils will expect to give and receive communication through the medium of Welsh. Ysgol Llanfair is proud of its work in promoting the Welsh language and culture amongst all learners and celebrates its many successes in this area over many years. We are also a community school which successfully raises standards among all the children and are committed to ensuring that your child`s time at Ysgol Llanfair will be enjoyable and inspiring. Please note; We would ask families with children aged between 7 and 11 who are considering Ysgol Llanfair and who have no previous experience of education through the Welsh language, to refer to our Prospectus, giving particular attention to the school Welsh Language Policy.
